Our core Christian beliefs are centered around The Apostles’ Creed, which reads as follows:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
** catholic means universal.
Also, as a member church of the Association of Independent Methodists, www.aim2020.com, Northview Methodist Church worships the eternally triune God—Father, Son, & Spirit—who is made known in the inspired Scriptures, his self-revealing, reliably-written word to humankind. Furthermore, we recognize & affirm the historic Methodist 25 Articles of Religion, sharing the orthodox, catholic faith of the early church expressed plainly in the Apostle’s Creed. We also affirm the Rules of Discipline of The Association of Independent Methodists. As Wesleyan Methodists, we believe that a person’s greatest calling is to know, love, & reflect the triune God, in whose image we have been created. The Father’s desire is that his children be holy, sharing his character. What’s more: the Holy Spirit is able—in cooperation with our faith—to apply the redeeming work of Christ to our hearts in such a transformative way that our lives can be lived in self-giving, other-oriented love. This message is commonly known as “holiness of heart & life,” and we understand it to be the biblical promise of hope, joy, and peace.
- “Faithful is He who calls you & who will also do it.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:24
In Summary:
- We reaffirm John Wesley’s traditional twenty-five articles of belief.
- The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God, inerrant in the original manuscripts.
- There is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Jesus Christ is the only Savior, and the only way to salvation and everlasting life. We believe in His deity, as well as His virgin birth, death, resurrection, ascension, and imminent return.
- Salvation is by grace through faith in the blood atonement of Christ, through the repentance of sins.
- The Biblical account of creation and all other supernatural acts of God recorded in the Scriptures are true.
- Man was created a moral free agent and remains so all the days of his life, with the God-given freedom to choose or reject God throughout one’s life.
- The believer can be cleansed from all sin through the sanctifying power of the blood of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit.
- There is to be a resurrection of both the saved and the lost: the saved to eternal life and the lost to eternal damnation.
- We believe in and practice two sacraments—baptism (choice of mode) and the Lord’s Supper.
